Ghorepani Trek in the Annapurna Sanctuary

The Ghorepani Trek, a classic Annapurna region trail, offers a mesmerizing journey to the Base Camp of Annapurna I and Machhapuchhre. This relatively short trek can be completed in just 9 days, starting and ending in Pokhara. Alternatively, it can be seamlessly integrated into the Annapurna Circuit trek by traversing from Tatopani through Ghorepani and Tadapani to join the main Sanctuary trail at Chomrong. An entry permit for the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) is required for this trek.

Itinerary

Day 01: Drive to Naya Pul & Trek to Ulleri (1920m)

Embark on a 2-hour drive to Naya Pul, then commence the trek to Ulleri, passing through Birethanti and ascending a stone staircase to the large Magar Village at Ulleri.

Day 02: Trek to Ghorepani (2855m)

Cross two streams and climb to Nangethanti for lunch. From there, it’s an hour’s trek to Ghorepani, the largest Gurung village, situated at 2850m.

Day 03: Ghorepani Trek to Poonhill (3210) – Tadapani (2680m) Sitku

Wake up early for a climb to Poon Hill (3195m) to witness a spectacular sunrise over the high Himalayas. Return to the lodge for breakfast and then trek through forests, reaching Tadapani at 2540 meters. Overnight in Sitku.

Day 04: Sitku – Ghandruk – Landruk – Pothana

Descend through rhododendron and oak forests, passing Ghandruk with stunning views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhare. The trail then goes through Tolka, Bichok, and Deurali before descending to Pothana.

Day 05: Pothana – Australian Camp – Pokhara (860m)

Descend from Pothana to Australian Camp and then to Kande, catching vehicles for a drive to Pokhara.

Meals: Three meals a day – breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with lunch being lighter due to time constraints. Options include fried rice, momo, vegetables, chips, spring rolls, tea, and coffee.

Dinner: A wide range of Nepali, Tibetan, Chinese, Indian, European, and continental choices, along with tea and coffee.
